From the tranquil waters of Anawilundawa Wetland Sanctuary to the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya and the remote wilderness of Wilpattu National Park, this 17-day journey through rural Sri Lanka is a celebration of the island’s extraordinary wildlife and natural beauty. Shaped by landscapes far removed from the bustle of the country’s larger cities, it reveals a slower, more nature-led side of the island.
Discover a land where elephants roam freely, leopards lurk in the shadows of ancient forests, and rare bird species thrive in lush wetlands and misty highlands. Spend unhurried time traversing iconic national parks, seeking out lesser-known hidden gems and exploring biodiverse ecosystems where nature sets the rhythm of daily life. Ride the scenic highland train through rolling tea country, explore the ancient ruins of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s first capital, and soak in the island’s ever-changing landscapes.
Beyond the wild, engage with rural communities keeping age-old traditions alive, savour the bold, diverse flavours of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, and unwind in rustic, characterful accommodations chosen for their setting and sense of place.
This is a journey shaped by nature – balancing Sri Lanka’s iconic highlights with quieter, lesser-visited corners that reward curious travellers with a deeper connection to the island and its wild heart.

Whale Watching, Galle
We set off early with a transfer to the harbour, where you’ll meet your naturalist guide and crew before boarding your vessel and heading out to sea. The calm morning conditions provide ideal opportunities for marine wildlife spotting as you travel between 20 and 40 nautical miles from the coast.
Scan the waters for blue whales, sperm whales, killer whales and several species of dolphins, often seen in these nutrient-rich waters. Throughout the journey, your naturalist guide will share insights into the behaviour and habitats of the marine life encountered, while the experienced crew navigate the Indian Ocean.

We were looked after so well. Our guide, Riya, was absolutely first class, and all the hotels were lovely, from the wonderful welcome to the plentiful food choices. We saw and learnt about so much of this enchanting country on this tour, with a wide-ranging program of interesting excursions.
