Did you know...

Perched dramatically on a cliffside above the Paro Valley, at an altitude of around 3120 metres, Tiger’s Nest Monastery is one of Bhutan’s most iconic sights – and one of the world’s most precariously located monasteries. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche, who brought Buddhism to Bhutan, flew to this spot on the back of a tigress, and meditated here for three months, giving the monastery both its name and its deep spiritual significance.

Golden Triangle and Ranthambore

Amazing holiday . Perfect organisation . Every aspect of the trip i couldnt fault . The guide Vishnu was a lovely genuine man who had a passion for his country and knew all the information on every temple we visited . A trip i ll never forget and as a solo, one that has inspired me to go on more . Distant journeys was brilliant from first phone call of enquiry to last goodbye at the airport.

Temples and Tigers

First time using Distant Journeys and I have to say it was a triumph. India is a big country so it involves a lot of travelling if you want to see it, but here we had wonderful hotels waiting for us with every new location. From monkeys trying to break into our room at Shimla to watching Weaver birds making their nests whilst swimming in Ranthambore. Any escorted holiday depends heavily on the tour guide allocated and our guide VP was as good as it gets. So we saw a Bollywood movie in an art Deco cinema, slept on a houseboat, visited a spice village and an Indian Honey producer and saw a real local martial arts show as well as experiencing the Ganesh festival in an Indians house so very special to see the real India. Obviously saw (finally) the Taj Mahal that was actually topped by the Golden Temple at Amritsar. Met some great people who are now friends so a 5* experience all the way.
